Kymberlie and Her Baby Returned Home Together
When prolonged labor placed a mother and her baby at risk, timely care made all the difference.

Throughout her pregnancy, Kymberlie was cared for at home by her parents. When her labor began, they called a traditional midwife to help her deliver her baby.
But the hours passed, and Kymberlie’s labor continued.
Recognizing that Kymberlie needed a higher level of care, the midwife urged her parents to take her to a clinic. Her family listened and acted, helping Kymberlie reach the care she needed.
At the clinic, trained healthcare workers helped Kymberlie safely deliver a baby boy. Because her newborn needed additional medical attention, he was referred to the neonatology department at Hôpital Ste-Croix.
There, healthcare workers provided the specialized care he needed during his first vulnerable days of life.
Later, both Kymberlie and her baby were discharged. Mother and son returned home together.
Timely care gave Kymberlie and her newborn son the chance to return home together.
In Haiti, distance, poverty, and limited medical resources can place care beyond a family’s reach. When complications arise during labor or shortly after birth, access to a prepared clinic, skilled healthcare workers, and specialized newborn care can determine what happens next.
Kymberlie’s story could have ended very differently. Instead, a traditional midwife recognized the danger, her family sought help, and a connected system of care was ready to respond.
This is why MBF partners with Christian healthcare ministries such as Hôpital Ste-Croix. Through Organizational, Clinical, and Spiritual Impact, MBF helps strengthen the healthcare systems and people families depend on — so excellent care is available when mothers and babies need it most.
