Sustainable change in medical care depends in large part on the availability of skilled nurses. That’s why MBF and our donor partners are passionate about expanding nursing capacity, improving access to quality nursing education, and equipping nursing leaders for success. This passion led to the Center for Global Nursing Development (CGND), founded in 2015. A central resource for nurses globally, the CGND works through local medical ministries to give nurses in lesser-resourced countries the skills, knowledge and competencies they need to help the communities they serve. Thanks to amazing volunteers and donors, and the passion and drive of our international partners, the Center’s programs help assure:
  • Better clinical outcomes for patients
  • A pool of confident and competent local nursing leaders
  • Knowledge sharing across countries and specialties
  • Faith-based values approach in ministering to patients.

The Center for Global Nursing Development (CGND) works in partnership with thousands of nurses, nursing students and nursing educators at mission nursing schools and hospitals in developing countries like Haiti, Kenya, Malawi and DR Congo.

Through a Global Nursing Network, we connect people with a heart for nursing and the right skills and resources to our mission nursing school and mission hospital partners.

Critical Care Consulting at Nkhoma Mission Hospital

The team at Nkhoma Mission Hospital in Malawi recently partnered with MBF on an assessment of the hospital’s Critical Care capacity. The hospital is starting a new surgical residency to train Malawian surgeons as a key part of the countrywide Medical Network in Malawi. The advances made there will benefit all of Malawi.
  • MBF is continuing the Critical Care readiness initiative with Nkhoma Mission Hospital by working on areas identified in the initial Needs Assessment phase. Courses to help fill skills gaps are being readied.

  • Other hospitals need the same help, and MBF will help them as our resources permit. We are so thankful for the nurse volunteers who offer their time and knowledge. More volunteers are needed to cover all the hospitals who want to build their Critical Care capacity or implement other new Clinical Systems in their hospitals.

The Mary K Scholars program helps students pursue their nursing dreams at mission nursing schools. Their willingness to stay and serve in their communities after their training means countless lives are changed.

Stories of courage, persistence and vision about these students can be found on each of the nursing school pages on our site.

When you give to help train a nurse, you’re giving a gift that provides more than just training. You’re giving a better future for the nurse and all the patients they will serve.

This year, over 100 students at mission nursing schools in Haiti, Kenya, Malawi and DR Congo are Mary K Scholars and hundreds more have already graduated and are helping provide hope and healing in their communities.
