Helping Children Get the Medical Care they Deserve

MBF prioritizes medical care for communicable diseases among children in the countries where we serve.

Many of the children admitted to our partner hospitals are there for preventable reasons: malaria, pneumonia, and bacterial gastro-intestinal diseases. We work with our partners to assure they can provide simple, affordable yet highly effective interventions for these illnesses.

Helping children with congenital anomalies.

Access to surgery in developing countries is rare; access to pediatric surgery is even more scarce. MBF works with local hospitals to help children who need surgery to correct congenital anomalies. At the Kikuyu Orthopedic Rehabilitation Center in Kenya, patients can receive basic reconstructive surgeries for congenital musculoskeletal diseases. The Orthopedic Center ‘s construction was funded by MBF donors and grants in 1998. Today, it has 37 beds and two orthopedic operating theater rooms. There, hundreds of pediatric patients from Kenya, Tanzania and Somali refugees are treated each year.

MBF provides charity medical care for patients in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through partner hospitals and clinics IMCKMoma, and the CPK clinics in Kinshasa. Though one of the largest countries in Africa, the DRC is one of the poorest in the world. The average annual income is only $785 US dollars. Patients who come to our partner hospitals and clinics with urgent needs should never be turned away for lack of ability to pay
Pediatric surgery for patients at HSC hospital in Haiti is another on-going commitment. The team at Hospital Ste. Croix helped their fellow Haitians after the August 2021 earthquake in the most selfless way – they gave away their scarce medicines and supplies through mobile clinics in the hardest hit regions. MBF has committed to help the hospital cover some of their patient costs, including surgeries for needy children.
