The Presbyterian Church of East Africa’s Tumutumu Hospital Training College in Kenya has been producing qualified health professionals since 1929. Situated in the Central Highlands of Kenya, about 80 miles north of Nairobi, the College is co-located with the PCEA Tumutumu Hospital.

The college offers three-year diploma programs for nurses and nurse mid-wives, as well as other diploma courses, and is accredited by TVET, Nursing Council of Kenya and is a KNEC Examination Centre. One of its core values is to be an “authentic, unpretentious college of health sciences where students, lecturers and staff care deeply about each other”.

In the last academic year, there were 62 nursing graduates who will help fill the global nursing shortage. 100% of the graduates passed their external exams for their certifications. Last year, there were also ten Mary K Scholars at the school. Mary K Scholarships are established by a generous gift from an MBF donor and allow industrious and bright students to achieve their dreams of becoming nurses.

Meet Purity. She is a Mary K scholar at the Tumutumu Hospital Training College. Her family are farmers who rely on growing coffee as the source of income for their six children. Purity works to help support her family but has been interested in nursing since she was young. On track to graduate in 2022, Purity writes: “you have a special place in my heart for making my life change and not only change but change for the better. I promise to be disciplined until I am through with my course and to make more people aware of the opportunities at this institution.”
